In this Episode

Cabin is an internet-native community that uses web three tools for resource coordination, governance, and identity. Jon believes in creating a flexible structure that can grow and morph towards the long-term goal that they are trying to achieve. Jon and the other members of Cabin have been exploring different ways to build and grow their community. They started out with a creator residency program, but over time, they realized that they needed to create deeper co-living experiences. They also started thinking about how to bring role-playing games offline and build things in the real world.

One of the experiments they ran was a Build Week where a group of people showed up ready to swing some hammers and build a something together. It was a way to create de-financialized systems for people to interact with the community.

Jon talks about the legal structure of Cabin, which is an unincorporated non-profit association. Cabin is a network of neighborhoods, and each neighborhood is typically its own legal entity, working as part of this broader neighborhood association. Jon also talks about the challenges of building a network city and how they have overcome them. One of the biggest challenges has been creating a structure that can support multiple neighborhoods and legal entities while still maintaining a sense of community. Another challenge has been navigating the regulatory unclarity around decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs). This episode is a must-watch for anyone interested in network cities. Jon provides insights into how the project has evolved over time, the challenges they have faced, and how they have overcome them.
